Houston Government Threatens Our Democracy And Disrespects Reconciliation Efforts With Bill 127

The Green Party of Nova Scotia is alarmed at the recent passage of Bill 127, named the “Protect Nova Scotians Act” ironically enough, in a woefully short eight-day sitting of the NS Legislature. This bill criminalizes the actions of Mi’kmaw land defenders asserting their treaty rights at Tqamuoweye’katik (Hunter’s Mountain), where they’ve gathered to oppose destructive and unilateral clearcutting practices on Mi’kmaw territory. NS Greens Decry Assaults On Academic Freedom Under Bill 12

The Green Party of Nova Scotia rejects the government overreach and commodification of our universities which are proposed in Bill 12. This Trump-style attack on academic freedom is a material threat to Nova Scotia’s stature as a research leader as well as its local economies.  Allowing the government to handpick half of a university’s board undermines the integrity and independence of universities and their leadership.
