Draft Policies – Process 2018

PLEASE NOTE DATE CORRECTION – POLICY CONFERENCE IS 27 OCTOBER

The party will be holding a special general meeting to serve as a policy conference on 27 October, 2018. Mark the date in your calendar now. In addition to policy, the conference will include bylaw amendments.  Watch for more information in September.

How to Contribute 
Policy drafts that have been submitted to the committee will be posted on our website, greenpartyns.ca, on August 26. We invite you to look them over and comment either on the page or by email to the policy committee. If there is an important policy you feel is missing, please let us know, keeping in mind that it may fit in another policy.

To Submit Policy Ideas
Submissions must be received before the policy committee by the date chosen by the policy committee.  You may be contacted should the committee feel that the submission need rewording or adjusting to better fit the policy as written.
Policy submissions will not be put before the membership if it does not meet the following criteria:

  • It does not fall within provincial jurisdiction
  • It contradicts or interferes with other policies
  • It does not fall within the spirit of our principles
  • Does not include 3 endorsements by members in good standing

Policy will be put to membership vote if it either:

  1. is submitted prior to the stated deadline using the prescribed format, with a minimum of three endorsements of members in good standing, or,
  2. has been approved by the policy committee prior to the stated deadline by a Bonser vote with 75%  quorum.

The (committee) written policy drafts will be made available to the membership 15 days before the submission deadline so the membership has time to comment and suggest additions or changes. The final policy drafts, as well as any proper submissions will be made available to the membership not less than 30 days before the AGM / policy convention.

PRESCRIBED FORMAT FOR SUBMITTING POLICY :
Submitted policy will have the following format and order:

  1. specific subject/ policy area title
  2. relevant principles, beliefs and current state of affairs on the subject
  3. research and data supporting the submission including legal and scientific data/opinions where applicable {not necessarily the entire documentation, but links, names of studies, where the information can be located}
  4. a concluding section, including costs if applicable
  5. date, citations and endorsing members if applicable {three endorsing members}
