Ian Dawson, Sackville-Cobequid

Ian Dawson moved to Nova Scotia (HRM) in 2006 and remains constantly impressed with Nova Scotia’s natural beauty and the warmth of its people.  He is a practicing professional engineer, father, recreational athlete and active volunteer in the community (swimming, sailing, IWK) who has always had a passion for the political landscape.

Ian is a naval architectural engineering graduate from Memorial University of Newfoundland who also holds a Master’s of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University.  His 30+ years of professional life has been focused on leadership roles in manufacturing, shipbuilding and consulting engineering, notably within the energy sector.  As a consequence, Ian has good insight into the energy issues and opportunities that we all face.

In his downtime, Ian enjoys boating on the ocean, skiing, swimming and DIY-ing.  Through all of those, Ian enjoys continuously learning and mastering new skills.

Ian’s interest in politics has led him to articulate political philosophies that embody bold thoughts on:

  • Electrification of the world’s power needs
  • Replacing fossil fuels as a source of electrical power generation
  • Prioritizing sustainable consumption behaviours over non-renewable production methods
  • Promoting active lifestyles and healthful choices as a means to reduce the demands placed on the health care system
  • Reducing the direct and hidden costs we all bear as a result of our deteriorating climate

Ian believes governments should implement policies that aim to enhance sustainable personal and planetary health while being respectful of the fiscal realities of all taxpayers.

This is Ian’s first experience in running for public office.  He is running under the Green banner because he believes that we have a moral responsibility to hand a healthy planet and society over to our youth.  We do not give this world to our children; we borrow it from them.

As your MLA, Ian will advocate for your concerns.  Ian will challenge public policy with a pragmatic perspective that combines environmental stewardship with fiscal prudence.  Ian truly believes that the Green perspective will be an important addition to Nova Scotia’s most sacred democratic institution.
