The Green Party is working to build a prosperous and sustainable Nova Scotia, and we ask for your help to spread the word. We welcome you to become a member, volunteer, or candidate. Talk to your friends and co-workers, write a letter to the editor, call in to a radio talk show.
Our province has great potential, and we also face major challenges. It is crucial to understand that our challenges cannot be addressed separately. We need a holistic approach that works on multiple fronts to make Nova Scotia a better place to live and work for ourselves and our children.
Here are some key points to communicate to those who are willing to listen and debate:
- We cannot consume our way out of the global economic crisis. Economic stimulus that aims to restart massive overconsumption of the earth’s resources is ultimately bound to fail, and cause more harm than good.
- Local and sustainable production of food and energy will be a cornerstone of Nova Scotia’s future economy. Any provincial stimulus package must prioritize investments in these areas, as well as projects such as home retro-fits to help Nova Scotians conserve energy and save money. Re-building our energy efficient rail infrastructure is another important investment.
- The resourcefulness and resilience of Nova Scotians must be fully engaged. Working together we can overcome our challenges, but the citizens of our province must be invited to take part in the process to chart a way forward.
While government has an important role to play, we can’t rely on government to solve all our problems, we must rely on ourselves. We need political leaders that strive to engage the intelligence and energy of Nova Scotians.
Working together we can build momentum for positive change in Nova Scotia. If you wish to join our efforts, please also consider volunteering with the Green Party.
