Jim Laverie is a social justice and union activist with a keen interest in environmental issues. He is employed as a nurse at Yarmouth Hospital and, as a volunteer, has been a driving force in organizing important community events, such as: Labour Day, Day of Remembrance, Action on Violence against Women, and Day of Mourning in addition to being a member of the Green Party. He brings a long background of social activism from his union background and protecting and lobbying for worker’s rights.
The importance of bringing forward and ensuring the Green Party’s progressive platform was on the ballot was the motivating reason to run in this election. An avid hiker, Jim envisions unforetold growth in ecotourism in Nova Scotia under Green Party leadership. “Nova Scotia could be Ecotourism destination of the world.”
Jim believes in the Green Party and leader Thomas Trappenburg’s vision of a better Nova Scotia outside the three traditional dysfunctional Partys.
Jim was raised in Lunenburg County and has lived in Forest Glen Yarmouth County for 28 years.
